Day 16To Kamloops
We drove off to Field, where we stopped to look at the Burgess Shale display (including some of the fossils) and to buy the obligatory fridge magnet and T-shirt!! Paul also bought me a book!
Then it was off through Glacier National Park (didn't go much on there - hardly anywhere where you could stop - and where there were places, there was no darned food!) and then through Mt Revelstoke NP, which we also didn't go all that much on.
At Revelstoke, we found the oldest McDonalds in the world - or that's how it seemed. What a quaint place! We learnt, here, that Italy had won the World Cup! HOORAY!!!
We then drove through yet another storm, before we finally reached Kamloops and our bed and breakfast, down by the riverside (and named The Riverside!) The river is the South Thompson and it is very beautiful, set amongst semi-desert scenery - very different from the Rockies we had just left. We were greeted very friendlily (sp? word?) by the owners and Cynthia took us to our room, the Eagle Soar. We had the choice of taking the downstairs room instead, as it wasn't occupied, but we decided to stick with the Eagle Soar, as the view from the balcony was wonderful! The room was wonderful too - beautifully decorated, and with a huge TV, a massive bathroom, a telescope and a complimentary bottle of wine. Cynthia apologised, but she was unable to do us breakfast in the morning, because her mother was very ill with liver cancer. Later in the evening, mother was wheeled around the garden and she certainly didn't look very well at all.
We decided to go into Denny's for supper, but search though we might, we couldn't find the place! So we finally settled for a Tim Hortons. The food was good, but especially good was the strawberry tarts!
When we got back to our room, I had a long chat on the phone with Heather. I'm not sure who is the most nervous about our meeting tomorrow! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
